I’m so glad that fall is finally here! *throws pumpkin seed confetti* I’m enjoying more outdoor time with my babies and we are counting down the days until the weather breaks here in Texas. I have been craving family time more than ever and during the fall there are so many things that you can do to enjoy time with your family that cost little to no money. So, I wanted to share our family fall bucket list with you all.
Whether you like to cuddle up inside or do all of the things outdoors, here are 30 things you can do with your kiddos this fall:
Jump into a pile of leaves -this is a great way to get them excited about yard work and it makes for a great photo op.
Plant blubs for the spring -the ideal time for this is 6-8 weeks before a hard frost is expected.
Go apple picking.
Make candied apples -make them Halloween or Thanksgiving themed for more flare.
Bob for apples -this is a great way to let them enjoy water while it’s still sort of warm.
Visit the local pumpkin patch -coordinate your outfits when you go to capture all the great photo ops.
Decorate a pumpkin.
Roast Pumpkin Seeds.
Roast marshmallows/make s’mores -whether it’s a bonfire, outdoor fire pit or indoor fireplace s’mores are always a hit with my family.
Back yard camping or read stories under the stars -afraid of bears or other wildlife? This way you can get the experience of camping but still have the safety of being at home. Even if you don’t want to sleep outdoors, grabbing sleeping bags and snugging under the stars until the kids fall asleep sounds like a sweet idea and a great way to unplug.
Watch classic Halloween movies– we love movies like Goosebumps, Casper and Hocus Pocus.
DIY a Hallween Costume– we typically do this for “character day a the kids schools.
Make all the pumpkin flavored things– I don’t bake well but we are going to give it our best and do it with love. LOL
Have a picnic– pack up everyones favorite lunches and head to the park. You’ll have favorable temperatures without all the pollen and bees; that’s perfect picnic conditions to me. Take a football or frisbee to add to the fun.
Outdoor scavenger hunt– another way to get kids excited about not being in front of the tv all day; just make sure the end prize is something they love. Make it educational by having them look for a certain flower, bird, landmark, etc…
Go hiking– not a on mountain obviously but a nice leveled hiking trail would be great exercise for everyone.
Take a Fall Foliage Drive.
Visit a national park.
Craft with leaves (paint with leaves, make craft turkeys, etc) check out my Pinterest board here.
Fly a kite– another activity that shouldn’t be reserve for Spring. The big guts of wind should make this fun; especially in the DFW area.
Attend a fall festival– a traditional festival, trunk or treat event, etc..
Take a hayride.
Navigate a corn maze.
Visit the state fair- I can’t wait to eat deep fried everything at the Texas State fair. I missed it last fall because I was super pregnant with Luke.
Enjoy muddy puddles-buy them some rain boots and give them permission to be dirty for a few ours.
Go see a football game or play in the yard-everyone is football crazy here in Texas so we will have to catch a game or two. Even if football isn’t your thing, a good game of family flag football will be super fun.
Make a scare crow.
Paint pinecones but save some for Christmas decor -I’m not rushing Christmas, I’m just saying! LOL
Take you Christmas photo to get those holiday cards ready– stop rolling your eyes, you’ll thank me later! Wait until Dec 1st if you want to; no one will be getting your cards until January.
Get into the spirit of thankfulness early and create a list of blessings– never to early to start living in a spirit of gratitude. You can do this daily, weekly or monthly but it’s a must do.
This is how we will be spending our weekends for the next few months. Do you normally plan your weekends in advance or just go with the flow? I’ve found that putting family activities/dates on my calendar helps me to be more intentional about our family time. Have you ever created a seasonal bucket list or do you have any big plans for your family this fall?
Y’all are so cuteeeee and yes teach the babies to learn and appreciate the amazingness of HOCUS POCUS early! Lol I am thinking about going apple picking myself! Thanks for the tips xoxo.
