Growing up #BlackFriday wasn’t used for discount crazed shopping, it was our official day for breaking out our Christmas decor. I actually broke “tradition” a few weeks early this year and I a glad that I did. I put so much effort into my decorations that it’s nice to enjoy to be able to enjoy them a little bit longer. I’ve read that people who decorate for Christmas early are happier and I support that message. I knew that we were going to be selling our home soon, so I didn’t go crazy with buying new decor. Besides I really loved my blush and teal color theme from last year, especially since it match my family room perfectly. Here are a few tips to help you decorate a glam Christmas tree.
Most don’t realized that the key to the perfect tree isn’t the decor, it’s the tree itself. Big budget or small you have to make sure that you chose a nice, full tree. My main tree is the 12ft King Flocked Tree from King of Christmas. However, I have also purchased beautiful flocked tress from Khols and Decorators Warehouse in Arlington, Texas. For those on a smaller budget please check out these flocked trees from Best Choice Products.
Once you have your tree separate and fluff the branches like your life depends on it. The fuller it looks before you add anything, the better.
When it comes to how I decorate a glam Christmas tree my topper is the crown. You should pick your tree and decor with the topper in mind. If you have 10ft ceilings, you probably shouldn’t buy a 9ft tree and then add an additional 2ft of florals and branches at the top. If you want to create a large floral tree topper then first make sure your tree and ceiling height will work.
For my tree toppers I use all florals and stems. I think three separate florals are a good place to start, one that’s really full, one that really tall and one that adds a pop of color or extra flare like feathers or hanging jewel. My favorite places to shop florals are At Home, Micheals, Hobby Lobby and Decorators Warehouse.
Once you have your topper in place decide how you want to add ribbon. You can cascade the tree, wrap the tree or cut the ribbon into even pieces and make pattern across the tree. I prefer the patten option and it’s easier to do while the tree is a blank slate. I typically use ribbon in various sizes from 2″ to 4″ in width, with wired edges. Ribbon that is “meshier” works the best for sticking to the branches.
I used a two 2.5″ mesh ribbons as my base on this tree. Cut strips that are around 3′ but don’t cut them all at once. Depending on the size of your tufts and how deep you go in the tree, you may want to modify the size. I typically use ribbon in various sizes from 2″ to 4″ in width, with wired edges. Mesh ribbon seems to work best. Once you’ve cut your strips, take the end of the ribbon (I usually start in the middle of the tree), pinch the ends together, hold it near the end of the branch and twist it. That’s all you need to do to secure the ribbon.
If you like to change your color scheme each year, using ribbon on your Christmas tree makes it super easy. If you have a base color for your ornaments, you can simply change your ribbon color and boom it’s a new tree.
Once you have your ribbon added you can fill in your blank spaces with more ornaments and florals. The bigger the tree, the bigger the ornaments so it takes less effort to fill the tree. No secret sauce here just if you see a blank spot fill it in.
You can buy actual faux presents or make your own. I prefer to make my own. I start by saving my small amazon or kids shoe boxes from any fall shopping. Get wrapping paper that matches your color scheme and get to work. I don’t make new boxes every year, I store my faux presents in the attic with the rest of my decor and I save the wrapping paper that I used. That way if anything happens to rip or get smushed then I can fix it.
Tree skirts can range from affordable to expensive and the bigger the tree the bigger the skirt. Last year I found it easier to use throw blankets from Amazon and then just used them around the house after we put the tree away.
That’s it. That’s all I have on how to decorate a glam Christmas tree folks! Have you already put your tree up or will you be spending the weekend decorating? If a glam tree isn’t in your budget right now make sure you start early on your Christmas budget for next year.
I love the tips , especially with the throw blanket /tree skirt
Thank you. I thought that was super resourceful last year, hopefully it helps you.
I love the tips! We can’t fit a huge tree in our townhouse BUT I will apply these tips to our 5-6 ft tree!
It doesn’t have to be huge to be beautiful. I can’t wait to see.
I’m a try this step by step and see if I can step my free game up!
All these years I’ve always put the ornaments on firsts after putting the lights on, and the ribbon after that. The last thing I’ve ever done was put the topper on, which explains why the whole damn tree fell on me last year, like LITERALLY fell on my ass 🤣🤣 Too embarrassed! Lol! I will definitely be using the tips you listed this year for sure! Putting our tree up this weekend!
Thanks for the tips Tina!
